W.O.W.E.E. Uses SCORE In Its Business Planning
January 2006
World of Wildlife Educational Encounters (W.O.W.E.E.) is America's foremost wildlife educational organization. W.O.W.E.E. conducts school assemblies and outreach programs to teach people about the wonderful world of exotic animals and to promote awareness of rare, threatened and endangered species, as well as native wildlife.

As a non-political organization that focuses on education rather than legislation, W.O.W.E.E. is dedicated to creating a greater awareness of our natural world through educational encounters and programs.

Executive Director Karin Fires said, “We believe that teaching a child what an animal is, how and where it lives, and anything else we can explain about it will ultimately benefit a species' existence in our world more than any law that was ever enacted to save it. If a person understands what something is, they tend to appreciate it more as an interesting, essential, and valuable part of our world.”

W.O.W.E.E. has a threefold focus:
· EDUCATION – The conduct of school assemblies and outreach programs to teach people about the wonderful world of exotic animals. These programs are aimed at fostering a greater appreciation, understanding, and respect for our animal ambassadors. The programs carry no religious or evolutionary messages, making them ideal for any type of school or organization.
· REHABILITATION – W.O.W.E.E. takes in injured, orphaned, or abandoned animals and works closely with local veterinarians to 'repair' them so they may be released back to their native habitat. W.O.W.E.E. also places unwanted animals in new, caring homes.
· PROPAGATION – W.O.W.E.E. has a captive breeding program of several rare, threatened, and endangered species. This includes one of the few successful breeding colonies of binturongs in the United States. W.O.W.E.E. has placed their babies with other similar organizations all over the U.S. so others may learn about this incredible species.
W.O.W.E.E.’s goal is to connect young people in a school setting to the world of nature. Their exciting personal experience with our animal ambassadors will instill a sense of wonder, affection and respect towards all the citizens of our planet, regardless of species.
W.O.W.E.E. brings their animal ambassadors to their client’s location for a one hour daytime school-wide or classroom presentation. W.O.W.E.E.’s dedicated presenters animatedly share their knowledge of and love for each animal. Children are encouraged to ask questions throughout. Participants will be up close and personal with exotic and entertaining creatures like:
· Julius Squeezer, the 8 foot Burmese Python
· Tora or Odyssey, the fascinating Asian Binturongs
· Sunkist, the intelligent and talkative Moluccan Cockatoo
W.O.W.E.E. will then stage two evening performances for the community at the school facility. The admission tickets are $3 for children, $6 for adults. A retail kiosk offering wildlife wares is set up in the entranceway. During the program intermission and between programs, a photo opportunity is offered; kids of all ages can have their picture taken with one of the animal ambassadors for a $5 donation.
W.O.W.E.E. contacted SCORE Rochester in March, 2005 for assistance with various business planning issues. Follow-up sessions with SCORE counselors have continued to build, enlarge and expand W.O.W.E.E.’s business plan. “SCORE is an invaluable source of assistance in offering answers to our specific questions, guidance on our overall planning and helping us to focus on the critical issues” Karen Fires said. She cited previous experience in using SCORE services with other business activities that had proved very positive and helpful.
W.O.W.E.E. is seeking volunteers to assist them in their programs and with various administrative duties. The organization will soon offer information on their website as to how interested individuals and organizations can become members.
