Shenouda Associates Inc

SCORE helped Shenouda Associates Inc. get off the ground 25 years ago by helping business owner, Judith E. Shenouda, identify clients who would be interested in her technical writing and editing services. At the time, Judy was transitioning from employment in education to small business ownership. She was confident that her skills were marketable but wanted reassurance. With the help of SCORE, Judy and the SCORE advisors believed she had what was required to sell her services to organizations that create technical and business publications.

Today, Shenouda Associates Inc. is a company that whole-heartedly believes “providing communication solutions is as easy as abc.” As Judy says, “Throughout each publication project, we focus on the details. We dot the i’s and cross the t’s to ensure quality results for every customer.” For Judy, working competently, carefully, and intelligently produces excellent results that have a positive impact on her clients’ bottom line. She states, “For me, that spells success.”

With a keen understanding of effective communication, Shenouda Associates Inc. researches, designs, and develops the professional publications that launch products, streamline processes, and promote businesses.

During peak times, Shenouda Associates Inc.can staff a project with knowledge workers and creative talent, including communication specialists, instructional designers, project managers and localization editors.

Shenouda Associates Inc.also develops and presents informative and engaging workshops, seminars and keynotes on topics related to writing technical and business publications, managing the professional and personal projects in life, and starting and sustaining a successful business.

Before starting Shenouda Associates Inc. in 1986, Judy taught English and Language Arts courses at the secondary, post-secondary, and college levels; provided academic support and career services at the college level; and worked as a freelance writer. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Secondary Education from SUNY at Buffalo and a Master of Arts degree in Literacy Journalism from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She completed additional courses in curriculum design and development, group dynamics, information studies, publication management and project management; and has a New York State Certification to teach Secondary English.

As an active member of the professional communication community, Judy has served on the advisory board for the Communication & Information Design degree program at SUNY Institute of Technology, in Utica, NY, and has volunteered for the Rochester, NY, Ad Council roundtables. Through Toastmasters International, she has gained recognition as a Competent Communicator (CC), an Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB), a Competent Leader (CL), and an Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB). Judy is a frequent presenter at local, national, and international conferences.

Judy makes it a priority to connect with workers of all types and varieties. She sees the next generation of workers as having a rich potential and aptitude for using new media as modes of communication. At the same time, she applauds the technical acumen, product knowledge, facility with many publishing tools, and sound judgment of experienced workers.

Judy recently discovered that SCORE is “not just for starting businesses,” and has consulted with SCORE to assist with developing a new, top-secret business product. SCORE advisor, Matt Clement, did a financial analysis to determine the profitability of this new product. He provided a sample of a comparable product and provided the suggestion to find the perfect stranger to help ignite the project. These meetings helped Judy get a handle on this new business project and boosted her motivation to bring the project to completion. When asked about her recent consultation with SCORE Rochester, she commented, “This new product moved from the back burner to the forefront. With Matt’s excellent suggestions, I made it a priority. My perfect stranger works alongside me one morning a week. Together, we are making excellent progress.”
