SCORE announces that Step By Step of Rochester has been chosen Client of the Year for 2005

SCORE, a volunteer service organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration has chosen Step By Step of Rochester as their 2005 Client of the Year.

Step By Step of Rochester, a non profit organization founded in 1993, works with incarcerated women of all races, religion and economic strata to rebuild their lives and transition back into the community. SCORE assisted Step By Step in business planning, office procedure coordination, coordination of activities and volunteers and human resource management. (See more about Step By Step)

Step By Step founders Pat Merle and Margy Mayk accepted the award which was presented at SCORE’s monthly membership luncheon at Oak Hill Country Club. In accepting the award, Ms. Merle stated that SCORE has become part of their team and that the partnership has resulted in improvements in all areas of their operations.

The SCORE Client of the Year Award is given to the client that benefited most from SCORE’s counseling.

Small Business Start-Up & Survival

On Wednesday, July 13th, 2005, SCORE and the U.S. Small Business Administration will present a workshop entitled Small Business Start-Up & Survival at the Federal Building in Conference Room B0340, 100 State Street, Rochester, NY from 8:45 am - 3:30 pm.

The program includes information on SBA programs, business planning, banking, marketing, recordkeeping & finance along with legal, tax and insurance considerations.

The presenters will be people from the business community and SCORE members.

Prepare Your Own Business Plan

On Wednesday, May 18th, 2005, SCORE and the US Small Business Administration will present an all-day workshop entitled Prepare Your Own Business Plan at the Federal Building in Conference Room B0340, 100 State Street, Rochester, NY from 8:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The program includes information on all the parts of a business plan, an analysis of a typical business plan and expert help in starting your own business plan

The presenters will be SCORE counselors who are skilled in business plans.

Marketing on the Internet

On Wednesday, May 18th, 2005, SCORE City Branch and the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship, Roberts Wesleyan College will co-host a workshop entitled Marketing on the Internet at 265 Warwick Avenue, Rochester, NY from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.

The program includes information on email marketing, building a website, submitting to and optimizing your website for search engines, and driving traffic to the website.

Starting a Small Business

On Wednesday evenings, May 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th, 2005, SCORE Chapter 23, the US Small Business Administration and Brighton Central Schools Continuing Education will present a course, Starting a Small Business, at Brighton High School, 1150 Winton Road South, Room 104, Rochester, NY from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The series will address business planning, budgeting and cash management, insurance and legal considerations, marketing and finance.

Women Business Owners' Roundtable
Improving Your Odds for Small Business Loans


On Wednesday, May 4th, 2005, the US Small Business Administration, SCORE, Chapter 23, SBDC/SUNY Brockport and NAWBO, Greater Rochester Chapter will host a roundtable discussion targeted to women business owners at the Federal Building, 100 State St., B-Level Conference Room, Rochester, NY from 11:30 am-1:00 pm.

Is your business expanding and in need of financing? Would a line of credit be useful in managing your business' cash flow? Join us and learn how to prepare for the pursuit of financing or share your own experience and advice on how you financed your business!
